Bhuri Singh Museum

The museum was founded during the reign of Raja Bhuri Singh, who gave his family's collection of paintings to start it. Its strength is Pahari art: Basohli and Chamba miniatures, later Kangra-style work, and painted wooden panels. It also holds the Chamba state's copper-plate and stone inscriptions, coins, arms, embroidered Chamba rumals, royal costumes and carved fountain slabs (baolis) gathered from around the district. Housed in a purpose-built block near the Chaugan, it is compact and can be seen in an hour or two, and is the best single introduction to Chamba's history.

1. It is a short walk from the Chaugan in the centre of Chamba town.
2. Chamba is about 120 km from Pathankot by road, via Dalhousie.
3. Buses and taxis reach Chamba from Pathankot, Dalhousie and Dharamshala.

Any time the museum is open; pair it with a Chamba town visit in March–June or September–November.

• Photography inside is usually not permitted; check at the ticket desk.
• Opening hours are limited (roughly 10am–5pm) and it is shut on Mondays.
• Allow 1–2 hours; labelling is basic, so a guide or reading beforehand helps.
