Kamru Fort

Kamru was the first capital of the Bushahr state before it moved to Sarahan and then Rampur. The fort is a multi-storeyed tower built in the kath-kuni style, alternating deodar beams and dry stone, rising through a series of gateways above the village. A image of Kamakhya Devi, said to have been brought from Assam, is enshrined here, and there is a Badrinath temple in the courtyard. Visitors are usually asked to wear a cap and a waistband and may not be allowed into the top storeys. It is a short, steep walk up from Sangla.

1. From Sangla village in the Baspa Valley, walk up through Kamru village to the fort (20–30 minutes).
2. Sangla is about 40 km from Reckong Peo / Karcham on a branch road.
3. Shimla is roughly 220 km; the drive up NH-5 and the Sangla road takes most of a day.

April to June and September to October. The Sangla Valley road and Kamru are snowbound in deep winter.

• You may be asked to wear a provided cap and cloth sash to enter, and to leave leather items outside.
• Photography of the deities is not allowed; the upper floors are often closed to visitors.
• It is a working shrine managed by the village — follow the caretaker's instructions.
