About
Nadaun sits where the Hamirpur–Kangra road crosses the Beas. It was long linked to the Katoch dynasty — Raja Sansar Chand of Kangra made it a favoured residence, and the Amtar palace and old temples date from that period. The Battle of Nadaun in 1691, in which hill rajas with Guru Gobind Singh's forces fought a Mughal detachment, was fought nearby; Guru Gobind Singh's Bani Bhikham compositions reference it. Today the calm, wide stretch of the Beas here is used for angling and for riverside tented camps, and the town is a quiet stop between Hamirpur and Kangra.
