About
The Brajeshwari (Bajreshwari) temple marks the spot where, in the Shakti Peetha tradition, the left breast of Sati fell. Its recorded wealth made it a target: Mahmud of Ghazni sacked it in the 11th century, and it was attacked and looted several more times before the great Kangra earthquake of 1905 levelled it. The present temple, in Kangra town below the fort, was built after that. Pindi (aniconic) images are worshipped here, and the temple is thronged during Navratri and at Makar Sankranti, when a special 'pind' ritual is performed.
