About

Trilokinath stands above the village of the same name near Udaipur, on the Chandrabhaga in Lahaul's Pattan Valley. Its central figure is a six-armed white marble image that Hindus revere as Shiva and Buddhists as Arya Avalokiteshvara; the temple is one of the few actively shared by the two faiths. The shrine has a shikhara over a wooden mandapa and prayer wheels around it. The Pauri fair in August draws pilgrims from Lahaul, Chamba and Ladakh. It is usually visited with the wooden Mrikula Devi temple at Udaipur a few kilometres away.

How to reach

  1. From Keylong, drive down the Pattan Valley to Udaipur (about 50 km), then a short climb to Trilokinath.
  2. Udaipur is reachable in summer via Keylong, and via the Rohtang/Atal Tunnel route from Manali.
  3. There is limited bus service; most visitors come by taxi or on a Lahaul tour.

Best time to visit

June to September, when the Pattan Valley road is reliably open. The area is snowbound in winter.
