About
Bhrigu Lake sits at around 4,300 m on the ridge above Gulaba, named for the sage Bhrigu who is said to have meditated here. The trek is popular because it reaches an alpine lake and wide meadows quickly — often in two nights from Manali — but the fast gain in altitude makes acclimatisation important. The route climbs through forest to the Gulaba and Rola Kholi meadows, then over open slopes to the lake, which stays partly frozen into early summer. Snow lingers on the upper section through June.
How to reach
- Base in Manali; drive to the roadhead near Gulaba or Kothi on the Rohtang road.
- Manali is reached by bus from Chandigarh/Delhi or by air to Bhuntar (50 km).
- Most trekkers arrange the trek through a Manali operator with a guide and permits.
Best time to visit
Mid-May to June for snow around the lake, and September to mid-October for clear, dry trails. Avoid the July–August monsoon.
